Our resident Chelsea supporting punters here inside the Football Transfer Tavern have been alerted to the news filtering in from Il Tempo via Metro – with the publication suggesting that Chelsea are preparing a £31.4 million bid to land Roma defender Kostas Manolas in the summer.
The 24-year-old has been impressive for the Serie A side this season and it seems that the Blues want to lure the Greek defender to Stamford Bridge, possibly as a replacement for John Terry who is set to depart the London outfit at the end of the season.
With Italy manager Antonio Conte looking set to take the helm at Stamford Bridge, the signing of Manolas has the potential to be Conte’s first signing in charge at Chelsea.
Our resident Blues fans over by the pool table here in the Tavern aren’t too sure what to make of this news, and feel £31.4 million is a large amount of money to fork out for a new defender, but do admit that if he can emulate his performances for Roma in the Premier League, it could be an incredibly astute signing!
Our landlord says that the 24-year-old is a very accomplished defender, and thinks he would be a hit at Stamford Bridge! His arrival, along with Conte, could sway you to use your William Hill new player bonus on Chelsea winning the league next year.
