Chelsea set to rival Manchester United in race for Real Madrid striker

It looks set to be an intriguing summer for those of a Chelsea persuasion, as the Blues try and put together a squad capable of challenging domestically and in the Champions League.

The Blues romped to the Premier League title during 2016/17 and in winning it by some distance they sent out a resounding message to their rivals that they are back in business following a year in the wilderness.

Italian boss Antonio Conte must not ensure that he can compete with the big spending Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool and make sure that last season wasn’t just a flash in the pan.

Some potentially exciting news is emerging courtesy of today’s Sunday Mirror, who are claiming that the Blues are trying to rival Manchester United for Spanish star Alvaro Morata.

The report states that Chelsea bigwig Roman Abramovich has sanctioned a £70 million transfer of the striker who looks to be surplus to requirements at Real Madrid.

The Red Devils thought they had won the race for his signature although this report seems to suggest that the transfer saga looks set to intensify in the coming weeks with the Blues now seemingly in the race.

One Chelsea fan is sat with a pint of ice-cold beer here in the Tavern and he thinks that Morata would be a quality signing for the club, stating that he would love to see the look of despair on the faces of the United fans if the Blues can pip them to the post on this one.

Chelsea fans, would you welcome Morata to Stamford Bridge? Let us know in the comments below!!!!
