Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are raising a glass in approval after reports indicated they’d beaten Manchester United to the signature of a highly-rated midfielder.
The Daily Mail says Chelsea are set to complete the signing of Dutch prodigy Juan Familia Castillo in the coming weeks, with the teenager snubbing a move to Manchester United in favour of joining the Blues.
Chelsea, along with a number of other top sides, have been keeping close tabs on the 16-year-old Ajax talent in recent months and the player’s versatility appeals to the west London giants, as Castillo can operate in central midfield or on the left-side.
The Netherlands U16 captain could be just one of many talented youngsters to leave Ajax in the coming months, with a mass exodus on the cards following the loss of academy coach Wim Jonk.
Ajax’s loss will be Chelsea’s gain though and the player will add to the Blues’ already bolstering youth set-up, although our landlord is concerned as to whether the player will ever earn a first-team chance.
