Chelsea’s summer had a slow start, but the pace is picking up, and Maurizio Sarri will likely want it to continue to progress over the coming weeks. The signing of Jorginho was, undoubtedly, a coup for the club – with the Blues snatching him from under the noses of Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.
However, given their poor form last season, a few more major deals are needed, and they’ll have to pull out another coup or two if they are to turn things around. They’re not likely to be favourites for many major deals this summer, given their lack of Champions League football, but the club need to make the sway of Stamford Bridge greater still.
One player that would undoubtedly be a coup for the club were he to sign would be Ousamen Dembele, who is rated at £72 million by Transfer Markt, and he’s the kind of player that the Blues should go all out to sign.
Ousmane Dembele only moved to Barcelona last summer, but it’s fair to say that his first season in Spain was far from great. The Frenchman failed to perform at the Nou Camp, and injury problems caused his progression to stagnate somewhat. Still, his talent is clear for all to see – but perhaps Barcelona may be willing to cash-in given his disappointing debut season.
For Chelsea, a move does make sense. The Blues are in need of a bit of an offensive rebuild, with both Pedro and Willian not at their best last season. Furthermore, Eden Hazard deserves to play alongside more talented players going forward, and Dembele could be just the ticket.
The Frenchman offers lightning pace, and his ability to drive down the flanks and create magic would terrify defenders in the Premier League. Not to mention, his technique and passing ability mean that there is far more to his game than just running, and he’d be a fantastic asset for the club.
In truth, between him and Hazard, Chelsea would arguably have an attack to rival even Liverpool’s frontline, and in a Maurizio Sarri team, that could be deadly. Sarri is known for his offensive style, and those two players, in particular, would thrive.
Sometimes, major deals just don’t work out, and you can’t blame Dembele for his first season. However, perhaps if Barcelona wanted to start again and sign someone else, Chelsea could take advantage – because he would be a sensational coup for the club.
