Chelsea made it two wins from two this weekend with a hard fought 3-2 win over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues and new manager Maurizio Sarri can be pleased with their opening two weekends’ work, and they have every chance of fighting for the title given the performances delivered thus far.
Sarri seems to be getting some of his messages across to his team, but there is still room for improvement, and despite the addition of Jorginho this summer, the Blues still look somewhat light in the middle of the park if injuries were to hit.
That’s why we at the Transfer Tavern think that signing Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse would have been a shrewd move for the club.
The young England midfielder is a wonderfully gifted player who can play a range of positions in the midfield, and he is a player who can no doubt go on to play at one of the bigger clubs.
Chelsea have an ageing Cesc Fabregas still in the squad, and on paper, Ward-Prowse appears to possess all the qualities of the Spaniard, making him an ideal replacement.
Southampton, of course, will not want to sell their key man in the middle, but Chelsea have the spending power if needed. It remains to be seen, but we think that Chelsea might well have made a mistake in not snapping up a player like Ward-Prowse this summer.
Chelsea fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
