Chelsea slipped to defeat this weekend to lowly Crystal Palace, but all in all it’s been a decent enough start for the Blues across their Premier League and Champions League campaigns.
The club were always going to find it hard to maintain their momentum of last season which drove them to the title with considerable ease, and manager Antonio Conte will know he might have to sacrifice success in one competition to do well in the other.
However, despite this, our landlord here in the Tavern still sees them as an exciting prospect for potential new signings, and he thinks the goalkeeping department is somewhere the club might need to strengthen in the coming months, with Thibaut Courtois’ future constantly under scrutiny.
One player he thinks the club could go all out to sign is current AC Milan and Italy starlet Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The 18-year-old is already a regular for Milan and has been since breaking into the team as a 16-year-old, and has recently signed a deal to remain at the club despite a summer of speculation.
However, Chelsea have the funds if needed to poach the top talent in Europe, and if Courtois does decide to move on, then signing Donnarumma would be the ideal sort of signing.
He has height, presence, and tremendous shot stopping ability for someone so young, and much like David De Gea at rivals Man United, he will go onto repay any investment in him for years to come.
Chelsea fans, what do you think? Would this be a good signing? Let us know!
