Chelsea should sell this £29.75m-rated Man Utd target this summer – here’s why

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern don’t think that Nemanja Matic, who is rated at £29.75m by Transfer Markt, will be a regular next season, and neither does our landlord…

The Serbian has been a great servant for the Blues, but this summer, it might be time for Chelsea to sell him.

The most obvious reason for this is the reportedly impending arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko. The Monaco midfielder is a player in the same ilk as Nemanja Matic, delivering powerful, relentless play in the heart of the midfield. Chelsea wouldn’t be spending big money on him were they not keen to see him start, and so that might leave Matic out in the cold.

You also have to mention that Matic’s form has been far below his best in recent years. His first year or so in a Chelsea shirt was remarkable, but he has been on a downward spiral ever since. Outshone by N’Golo Kante last season, the Serbian was decent for the Blues – but decency won’t win Champions Leagues. Antonio Conte must look to improve the Chelsea first team this summer, and Matic may well be sacrificed.

Man Utd are said to be interested in him, and whilst selling to a rival might not make much sense, it may be time for Chelsea to do the unthinkable. If the Red Devils are willing to cough up the cash, Chelsea may be wise to accept it and reinvest those funds elsewhere.
