Chelsea will be hoping to kick into gear this summer now after finally resolving the future of Antonio Conte in a move which sees the Italian step away from his role at the Bridge.

The Blues had a torrid time in the Premier League last term, but ended the season on a high with an FA Cup final win, and the club will be hoping for some more success next season as they look to reclaim their Champions League place under their new manager.

New signings will be expected now in the coming weeks, but as well as incomings, the club need to be facilitating some exits within the club, and one player we in the Tavern think should be shifted on is former Everton midfielder Ross Barkley.

The £22.5m-rated midfielder has struggled to adapt since moving to London in a big money move from Everton in the middle of last season.

Injuries, added to Antonio Conte seemingly not fancying the England midfielder, put paid to any chances he had of really making a name for himself at the Bridge, and even with a new manager on the horizon, the future looks bleak for Barkley.

There is little to doubt he has the ability to make an impact in the Premier League and at Stamford Bridge, but it cannot be denied that there are elements to his game and general attitude which need improving.

Chelsea will have little time for the development of Barkley with instant success craved, and they should look to get a return on their investment while they still can this summer.
