Cesc Fabregas isn’t a regular at Chelsea, and that is concerning the fans in the Transfer Tavern…
Of course, with a lack of game time often comes speculation of an exit, and given Fabregas’ qualities, he would likely have no shortage of suitors. However, with that said, it is absolutely essential that Chelsea do not lose their midfielder.
On Monday evening, Fabregas proved just how crucial he can be to Antonio Conte. Brought in to replace N’Golo Kante – which are sizeable shoes to fill – the Spaniard did everything that was asked of him and so much more. Strong defensively and a marvel in the attack, the 30-year-old was arguably the man of the match. Two fantastic passes led to two of Chelsea’s goals on the night, highlighting his importance.
In essence, the game proved one thing – that Fabregas, who is rated at £29.75m by Transfer Markt, is still more than capable of coming in to the side and making an impact. Even in place of Chelsea’s most influential player, he was able excel in his role.
That performance was, in many ways, indicative of Fabregas’ season at Chelsea. Often an afterthought, the Spaniard has come in on numerous occasions this year and made a real impact – be it through commanding leadership in the middle of the park or a last minute equaliser or assist.
Does he fit the system as well as Kante or Nemanja Matic? Definitely not, but he brings his own qualities to the table, and he can do so much more than that duo can offensively. Against a top side, it probably makes sense to bench him – but when teams are going to sit back, there is nobody better than Fabregas.
The Blues simply can’t afford to lose him.
