Chelsea supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are desperate for their club to keep hold of star centre back David Luiz during the summer transfer window with much speculation that he could depart for pastures new despite the protests of Blues fans.
However David Kidd who writes for The Mirror has arrived in the bar with news that the club have slapped a £45 million price tag on the Brazilian star in an attempt to keep him at Stamford Bridge.
La Liga champions Barcelona have been strongly linked with a £30 million move for the 26-year-old former Benfica man as they seek a long term replacement for club veteran Carles Puyol, who is expected to retire at the end of the new campaign.
However the Blues maintain their stance that they are not prepared to sell Luiz this summer despite suggestions that his flamboyant playing style will not fit new manager Jose Mourinho’s defensive ethos.
New Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino is understood to be an admirer of the defender and the Argentine tactician wants to make the Brazil star his new big addition after the club landed superstar Neymar in a £48 million deal earlier this summer.
However given this recruitment of Luiz’ international team-mate they could struggle to pay the fee required to land the Blues star and that could see him staying at Stamford Bridge at least for the upcoming season.
