Metro have some great news for Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern, as the publication claim that John Terry could well be set for a new deal.
The Blues’ skipper has been back to his best this season, and as our punters note, is still facing an uncertain future with Chelsea reluctant to hand out deals to players over the age of 30 that are longer than a single year.
Now however it seems that the club are ready to reward Terry’s performances and give him that years extension.
Manager Jose Mourinho has made no secret of how important the defender is to his side, and Chelsea dropped points during the injury layoff that the former England international skipper suffered.
As one of our punters note over a beer and a burger, Terry has not only been vital at the back for Chelsea in terms of his own performance but he has also helped Gary Cahill develop as a player to boot.
Our punters seem to think that under Mourinho, a new deal for Terry is just a formality, and Frank Lampard can expect a similar agreement.
Ashley Cole meanwhile may not be so lucky, with Mourinho clearly favouring Cesar Azpilicueta, not to mention being keen on bringing in Southampton’s Luke Shaw.
Do you think Terry deserves a new deal or should Chelsea look to the future? Let us know your thoughts below.
