Chelsea fans have started speculating over the arrival of another striker in the Football Transfer Tavern, after The Guardian confirmed the Blues have sold Demba Ba to Turkish side Besiktas for £4.7 million.
Ba was widely tipped to leave Stamford Bridge this summer despite a run of form towards the end of last season which saw the Senegalese internatonal score important goals against Paris Saint-Germain, Swansea City and Liverpool.
But with the Blues having signed Diego Costa already this summer, Ba’s first team chances looked slim.
In quotes on the Besiktas website, Ba said: “I’ve had a lot of positive feedback about Besiktas and Istanbul from my Senegalese friends in Turkey. To play in a Muslim country and in a new stadium is definitely very exciting.
“I know what my coach Slaven Bilic expects from me, and I am open to all sorts of competition. Since Besiktas fans like hard-working and spirited players, I will give everything I’ve got in order not to disappoint them.”
Ba joined Chelsea in January 2013, having scored 29 goals in 54 appearances for Newcastle United.
However, he managed only 23 starts and 14 goals over the course of his Chelsea career.
Now it remains to be seen whether Jose Mourinho will re-enter the transfer market for a new striker to support Costa and Fernando Torres next season.
