The Daily Express certainly have Chelsea fans looking up with a huge deal of interest here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
They claim that one of their on-loan stars wants to remain at the club – so much so, that they are willing to turn down a move to Real Madrid – for now.
Thibaut Courtois has been on loan in La Liga for the last couple of seasons at Real’s bitter rivals Atletico Madrid and has excelled.
Now it seems that despite interest from the La Liga leaders over a permanent deal, Courtois wants to remain with parent club Chelsea.
The Belgian keeper would of course face a tough fight with long standing number one Petr Cech, who has been next to flawless for the last decade, leading to a huge amount of doubt over the young pretender’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge.
Despite this, the player spoke out about his future and claimed that a long-term spell in Spain is not something that is on the cards for him just yet.
He was asked about the rumours that he was planning to run down his Chelsea deal, which expires in 2016 and move to Real Madrid thereafter and noted: “Everyone knows that I have a contract with Chelsea and I am happy at Atletico Madrid.
“I have never heard anything like that [about Real]. I am focussed on Atletico and I belong to Chelsea.
“If someone in Europe wants me they must first speak with Chelsea.
“The English club will decide what they want to do. Everything must go through there, and if nothing happens, then there is nothing.”
Is Courtois telling the truth? Is he destined to return to Stamford Bridge in the summer for the 2014/15 campaign? Let us know your thoughts below.
