The Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern thought that this deal seemed pretty logical…
Cesc Fabregas has long been linked with a Chelsea departure, with Antonio Conte seemingly distancing himself from the Spaniard as a regular starter in the Blues first team.
Now utilising a 3-4-3 formation, Fabregas’ offensive central midfield-type role is no longer necessary – and, as a result, it would appear that his role as a starter is over.
The other overarching transfer story from recent weeks is Chelsea’s pursuit of defensive reinforcement, with AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli touted with a big money move to Stamford Bridge.
These two stories, when pieced together, are significant – as it would appear that AC Milan want something that Chelsea have; whilst Chelsea have something that AC Milan want.
As a result, the Chelsea fans in the Tavern thought that the Blues could be able to work a deal out concerning both players – but according to Calcio Mercato; that does not appear to be the case.
Calcio Mercato are reporting that whilst AC Milan do want Cesc Fabregas, they will not be willing to part with Romagnoli in order to get him.
This will, no doubt, put a spanner in the works for Antonio Conte, as it could force him to look elsewhere for defensive depth.
After struggling to land his priority targets over the summer, January is looking to tell a very similar tale; and Conte could be forced to settle for his 2nd, 3rd or even 4th choice as he looks to continue his Chelsea revolution.
Our landlord thinks he needs to start preparing for the inevitable…
