Chelsea fans are looking up from their pints in dismay here in the Football Transfer Tavern after our landlord breaks the latest claim from Sky Sports.
The publication seems to think that despite reports to the contrary, Demba Ba will be at Chelsea next season.
We had thought that the Senegalese forward would be one of the first names on the cull list, and it seemed a move to Turkey could be on the cards – but the forward wants to stay and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge and see what happens.
According to Ba, he has been given assurances by manager Jose Mourinho that after coming on and saving Chelsea on several occasions last season, there could well be a place for him in the upcoming one.
He claimed: “Jose Mourinho has asked me to stay at Chelsea next season,
“He assured me that my situation wouldn’t change.”
The forward also took it one step further and noted that he feels it is payback for all his hard work – albeit from God; not the board at Chelsea.
He added: “I see this as my reward from God. I weighed up the pros and cons, and think that I will stay put to see what happens.
“I don’t know whether my situation will improve, but what with the coach’s offer anything can happen.”
Do you think that Mourinho is right to dare to Demba? Can the forward be a super sub again next season? Let us know your thoughts below.
