Chelsea star happy with life at Stamford Bridge

Goals and assists

Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we are still bemused by suggestions that Jose Mourinho wants to offload Juan Mata in the near future.

Not only is Mata one of the best players in the Chelsea side but he is clearly one of the finest in the Premier League and would be an asset for any side.

Now Metro carry the story regarding Mata’s insistence that he is happy to be at Chelsea despite speculation linking him with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard has only featured in one of the Mourinho’s four matches as manager, leading to fierce speculation in the transfer that he could be sold, although both Jose and Mata have dismissed the suggestions.

But after Chelsea reportedly rejected an amazing deadline day bid from Paris Saint-Germain, Mata remains at the club and says he wants to continue his ‘amazing’ two years in West London.

“I think it’s normal in every transfer window that there are lots of rumours but I’m happy here,” said the 25-year-old.

“It’s been a very, very good two seasons for me here, maybe the best of my career and what I want this season is the same.

“My only aim is to play here, grow as a player and do as good a season as the last two which were amazing for me.”

Mata missed out on selection in the Spanish squad for this weekend’s World Cup qualifiers, but is likely to make a return to action for the Blues next Saturday for the trip to Everton.
