The Daily Mail seem to think they have some vital news for Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
They claim that Ashley Cole will face a make-or-break game against Spanish side Atletico Madrid as his future comes under increasing doubt at Stamford Bridge.
Cole will start the Champions League semi-final tonight after right back Branislav Ivanovic picked up a yellow card to rule him out of the first leg.
That of course means that Cesar Azpilicueta will shift to right back and free up Cole’s former spot in the team.
Cole is facing an uncertain future at Chelsea, with his contract up in the summer, and despite our punters thinking he is well worth another contract at the club, the Blues may not see it that way.
Cole is also under pressure when it comes to his former impenetrable spot on the England national team, with both Southampton’s Luke Shaw and Everton’s Leighton Baines currently ahead of him in the pecking order.
Of course, should Cole display what we all know he can tonight, a new Chelsea contract will once again look like a formality and that spot on the plane could well be his.
Do you think Chelsea will give Cole a new contract or is it time for him to move on? Let us know your thoughts below.
