Here in the Football Transfer Tavern there are shocked looks as Fernando Torres has claimed that he wishes to stay at Chelsea and according to the Daily Mail, become a better player under Jose Mourinho.
The publication claim that Torres will snub the idea of a move back to his native Spain and to Barcelona and try to fight alongside Demba Ba for his place under Mourinho who he thinks can make him one of the best forwards in the world again.
Torres has of course struggled since his mega money move to the club and despite looking somewhat like his former self at times, has not rediscovered the form that made him one of the very best in the world.
He claimed however that Mourinho would help him to do this and noted when asked about links to the Catalan giants that: “I want to continue, I want to complete the contract I signed and continue winning trophies and I would like to be the best in the world in my position again.
“There’s no better place than to be than at Chelsea with Mourinho.”
He continued: “His (Jose’s) words motivate me. He’s said he doesn’t want to speak with the players that are in this tournament (Confederations Cup) until it’s over.
“We will meet soon, he will explain what he thinks of me and my situation, and I’ll tell him what I think.
“His trophies and achievements speak for himself. Not all the best coaches have been footballers.
“If you start to think about the players that have been in his teams, the strikers, they have all had great years.”
