As one of our punters quips here in the Football Transfer Tavern, it seems that calling your manager ‘daddy’ does not guarantee you a place in the starting line up, with the Metro claiming that Michael Essien could well be set for the exit door at Chelsea.
The utility man is one of Jose Mourinho’s most trusted players and followed him to Real Madrid, and back to Chelsea once again.
Despite that relationship, it seems that Essien is disappointed with the lack of time he has spent on the pitch this season, and his agent, Fabian Piveteau claimed that there is no shortage of takers if the player wishes to leave.
‘He could leave Chelsea this winter,’ Piveteau stated when speaking to RMC, the French radio station.
‘Several major European clubs playing in the Champions League were informed and the situation should settle down within the next 10 days.
‘You should know that Michael was not on the list of players who can play in the Champions League with Chelsea, so he is free to play in the competition with another club.’
Essien is aware that not only does he face competition from the current crop of players at the club, with the likes of Ramires and Jon Obi Mikel already being ahead of him, but there is the possibility of new players also arriving.
Will Essien finally leave Chelsea for good? Let us know your thoughts below.
