Chelsea star set for new five-year deal

mata.jpgThere are some happy Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern this morning as it is noted by Metro that Juan Mata is set to sign a new contract with the club.

There have been some quite strange rumours over the midfielder’s future since the second coming of Jose Mourinho and it was even claimed at one point that Mata was offered in a potential exchange deal for Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney – something that Blues fans were shall we say unimpressed about to say the very least.

The little Spaniard has taken to life in London like a duck to water and has become immersed in the city and its culture.

Not only this but more vitally, Mata has become one of the key men in the Chelsea side and is quite simply indispensable.

Mourinho is not a stupid man and despite the various signings he has made this summer, including that of Andre Schurrle and Marco van Ginkel, he is determined to keep Mata at Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable future and wants the player to sign a new five-year deal.

That of course would shoot down the rumours over his future and also  provide some reassurance for the player who was said to be hurt and upset by the claims that Mourinho did not fancy him as a player.

Will Mata sign his new five-year deal with the West London giants? Let us know your thoughts below.
