The future of Chelsea left back Ashley Cole is being discussed this evening in the Football Transfer Tavern thanks to an article by The Telegraph.
The paper are suggesting that Cole could be rewarded for his recent displays with a one-year extension at Stamford Bridge.
This is a turn up for the books as it was previously thought that the former Arsenal man would be allowed to leave after losing his place in the first team.
However, his assured performances against Atletico Madrid and Liverpool in recent weeks has seemingly given Jose Mourinho second thoughts about the England international.
Before his return, Cole had not started a game since January but now the Blues could now be ready to extend the 33-year-old’s stay for one final season.
We now wonder if this sudden change in fortunes for Cole could influence Roy Hodgson’s decision to pick him in his World Cup squad in May. Everton’s Leighton Baines and Southampton’s Luke Shaw are likely to provide fierce competition to the England centurion.
We’re not fully convinced about Cole anymore but do you think he deserves another year? Let us know your thoughts below.
