The Football Transfer Transfer is a hive of activity this morning and there are reports breaking that Chelsea striker Demba Ba is a target for former Blues manager Rafael Benitez at his new club Napoli according to the Daily Star.
Sources in Italy suggest that Napoli are on the lookout for two strikers having sold Uruguay international Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint-Germain in deal thought to be worth nearly £60 million.
The Serie A giants, who will be playing Champions League football next season, are close to signing Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain in a £28 million transfer, beating off fierce competition from Premier League giants Arsenal.
Reportedly Benitez is now plotting to play former Newcastle United striker Ba alongside the Argentine international and will offer around £7 million for the Senegalese international, who only made the switch to Stamford Bridge in January.
The 28-year-old striker could now be reunited with the Blues’ former interim manager, who originally brought Ba to Chelsea and took the team to Europa League success last term.
Ba was linked with a possible move to Aston Villa as a replacement for unsettled striker Christian Benteke. But now the 22-year-old Belgian was persuaded to sign a new contract with the Villa Park outfit that deal looks unlikely.
New Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is desperate to bring a top class striker to Stamford Bridge after making reported failed bids for Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney. If the England international can be secured that could spell the end of Ba’s short spell at Stamford Bridge.
