Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are hearing news that their loaned out English defender feels he has been treated unfairly by the Blues and wants to make his current loan switch permanent.
According to The Mirror, Ryan Bertrand has set his sights on making his loan to move Southampton permanent after finally feeling settled at a club on the back of being sent out on loan nine times.
Bertrand is surprisingly now 25-years-old leaving some punters shocked as some still thought he was a youngster, but instead he has spent the majority of his career on loan, meaning he hasn’t been able to fully settle into a squad and develop.
The defender spoke of his intentions in Saturday’s match programme against QPR, a game which he scored in, and said: “The situation became clear to me before I went on loan to Aston Villa (last season). I was getting those 15, 20, 25, 30-plus games a season, until I hit a stumbling block.
“That’s when the alarm bells rang. Before that, I had a chance to move from the club, but I was advised that I didn’t need to do that.
“It all unravelled in front of my eyes, and certain things didn’t make sense in terms of what certain people had said to me. All I ask for is honesty, and I didn’t get that.
“I wanted to be in a situation where the club is looking for the same things. In a way, me as a person and Southampton as a football club are quite similar. We’re both striving to do great things.”
Bertrand is now a part of Ronald Koeman’s new look Southampton and they have hit the ground running as they find themselves in second place, which is a world away from what fans and critics in the tavern believed they would be at this stage, after offloading a host of key players.
