Chelsea step up interest in number one transfer target

Radamel Falcao to Chelsea is a rumour that simply will not go away here in the Football Transfer Tavern, and Simon Johnson of the Evening Standard believes it may happen in January despite the previous denials from Atletico Madrid.

It is understood that Roman Abramovich is keen to use the £12 million Chelsea are set to receive from Liverpool in exchange for Daniel Sturridge towards a mega £48 million bid for the Colombian – a fee that reportedly triggers a release cause in his contract.

Chelsea officials have already been to Madrid to begin negotiations, and despite Atletico being reluctant to sell, they would rather Falcao join Chelsea than their fierce rivals Real Madrid who have also expressed an interest.

It’s also been reported that Abramovich is eager to fly the Colombian to London to give him a full tour of the city and the training facilities Chelsea have at their disposal in a bid to convince him to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
