A rather large ring of boos have just gone round the Football Transfer Tavern as the Chelsea regulars hear the name Diego Costa being whispered.
Metro claim that the Spanish international’s proposed move to Stamford Bridge is getting ever closer but the local regulars are a little apprehensive after he helped Atletico Madrid knock them out of the Champions League yesterday evening.
The landlord reminds us that football fans are a fickle bunch though and a few goals next season for the West London outfit would help them forget the pain he has just put them through.
Jose Mourinho may want to act fast though with the World Cup just around the corner.
A stellar performance from Costa for Spain would not only see his stock rise but also catch the eye of some of Europe’s elite to boot.
It’s no secret that Mourinho isn’t overly keen on any of his current strikers with Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba all grabbing some stick at different stages throughout the season.
Ba has enjoyed good goalscoring form in recent weeks but it is likely that all three will be sold with old club West Ham United rumoured to be interested in signing him.
But the most likely destination for Torres this summer is ex-employers Atletico Madrid so a swap deal involving the two and cash seems the most likely outcome.
Chelsea fans. Can you forgive Costa and accept him as one of your own next season? If he wins the Champions League, will he even want to leave sunny Spain? Let us know your thoughts below.
