Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern almost fainted in shock this afternoon after hearing that a key member of their squad wants to pack his bags.
The Sun states England international Gary Cahill wants to leave to secure his spot in Roy Hodgson’s European Championship side this summer and is frustrated with his lack of opportunities at Stamford Bridge.
Cahill has featured in just 12 Premier League matches this season and has fallen well down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge since Guus Hiddink took temporary charge of the struggling West London giants.
The defender has featured just twice since Jose Mourinho was sacked and his last league appearance came in Boxing Day’s 2-2 draw with Watford.
Currently vice-captain in the England set-up, Cahill fears his spot is under jeopardy due to his lack of playing time and the emergence of John Stones. As such, Cahill wants to leave just a month after signing a four-year deal.
Our landlord believes Cahill’s reasons are genuine but states there is no chance of Chelsea letting him go before January’s deadline.
Chelsea fans, would you let Cahill leave this month? Let us know in the comments below!
