Chelsea suffer blow in transfer pursuit; prolific forward in talks for new deal

After a summer of speculation in the Football Transfer Tavern – could he be about to commit his future to his current club?

Of all of Chelsea’s reported transfer links over the summer, very few elicited as much excitement from the Chelsea faithful in the Football Transfer Tavern than a proposed move for Romelu Lukaku.

The Chelsea fans in-house have always felt that Lukaku was let go too soon by the Chelsea brass, and an approach to bring the prolific frontman back to Stamford Bridge was touted as a masterstroke.

However, as the summer wheeled on with a seeming lack of progress on a prospective deal – the Blues seemingly gave up on the transfer – with our landlord citing high demands from Everton as the primary reason for the Blues’ decision to bail on the Belgian.

That was the first piece of bad news for the Chelsea faithful in the Tavern – and here comes another one…

One Chelsea fan leaning by the bar had expected the Blues to go back in for Lukaku in January – but that does not appear likely.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Romelu Lukaku’s agent Mino Raiola has confirmed that he and the club are discussing terms on a prospective new deal for the Belgian forward.

Questioned on contract talks, he said: ‘We are talking, yes it is possible that he could stay’.

He added: ‘He is really happy there at the moment’.

Whilst not going as far as to confirm that a new deal was on table, the fact that Lukaku seems content at Everton and is exploring the option of a new deal is not good news for the Chelsea faithful.

It looks like the Blues might have to look elsewhere in January as they look for another offensive option…

Chelsea fans – disappointed?
