Chelsea summer rebuild could see talented 30-year-old leave Stamford Bridge this summer

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern want to see their side improve this summer…

A historic Premier League title winning season came to a close less than a month ago, but if the Blues want to ensure another great campaign next year, Antonio Conte has to ensure that his side is in a far better position before the start of the next campaign.

Not a league where winners can rest upon their laurels, the teams around Chelsea are all improving, and it would seem as though Antonio Conte is keen to improve alongside them.

According to the Sun, Conte is planning on bringing in a host of players this summer – including Romelu Lukaku, Marco Verratti and Dani Alves – and a couple of important players could be forced out as a result. Perhaps the most surprising of these is apparently 30-year-old Cesc Fabregas, who has been important for Chelsea this season. Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic are also amongst those mooted with an exit.

Though not a regular starter under Antonio Conte, Fabregas’ role within the Blues’ first team squad has been crucial, with the Spaniard often coming off of the substitute’s bench and making a huge impact on fixtures for the Blues. Able to deliver a pass unlike anybody else, the Spaniard is one of Europe’s best at breaking down tough defences, and that ability has been crucial for the Blues over the last year or so.

Indeed, a departure for Fabregas would be disappointing for Chelsea, though the Spaniard may be interested in it himself. He is unlikely to be a regular at Stamford Bridge next season, particularly if a few big names are signed, and so he could look to find regular first team football elsewhere.

Our landlord, though, thinks that it is important that Chelsea hang on to him.
