The Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are desperate to see some players start making their way through the doors at Stamford Bridge, as top four rivals all around them announce their signings.
Both Manchester clubs as well as Arsenal have announced new additions already this summer, whilst there has been no activity from the Premier League champions.
However, that could all be about to change as according to reports from the Daily Mail, former Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero has passed a medical ahead of a move to join Conte’s side for the new season.
The 35-year-old rejected a one-year extension from Pep Guardiola and will now move in as an understudy to Belgian shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois, after Asmir Begovic joined Bournemouth earlier this summer.
Newly promoted Newcastle were also supposedly interested in a deal for the ‘keeper, however, our landlord reckons that regardless as to whether or not the Magpies would have offered him regular first team football, he would not have turned down the chance to spend the final few years of his career living and working in west London.
Chelsea fans, we want to hear from you! What do you make of Caballero as an understudy? Let us know…
