It is a busy day for Chelsea fans today in the Football Transfer Tavern and the Daily Mirror are not letting up as they claim the club could well be after Bayern Munich midfielder and Arsenal target Luiz Gustavo.
The midfield enforcer has been on the wish list of Arsene Wenger for some time now and it was only last week that we were noting the player was set to stay at Bayern Munich and fight for his place – despite the arrival of Thiago Alcantara and also the strength and depth already in the middle of the park – yet another blow for Arsene Wenger.
Now it seems Jose Mourinho has turned his attentions to the player after realising that John Obi Mikel had not changed much from his first spell in charge at the club and still was not the player he could rely on. Despite Chelsea going to such lengths to take the player from the grasp of Manchester United, Mikel has never fully convinced and Mourinho wants a player he can trust brought in.
The club have the likes of Michael Essien who was with Mourinho last season on loan at Real Madrid yet the Special One is aware of Essien’s injury problems and age – and knows that last time around at the club, his success was built in no small part to Claude Makelele in the ‘Makelele role’ and wants a player to become his 2013 version – hence the interest in the Bayern Munich star.
