Chelsea target Champions League winner as Luiz’s replacement

Raphael Varane Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are still amazed at how much money they managed to wangle out of Paris Saint-Germain for David Luiz.

The deal was in excess of £40 million and according to Metro, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has already chosen his ideal replacement.

That replacement is believed to be Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane who Mourinho signed for the Spanish club during his tenure in 2011.

The Special One dubbed him as the best young central defender in the world and it now looks like they could be set to reunite.

A series of knee injuries means that he’s struggled to hold down a first team place under Carlo Ancelotti although he did feature in last night’s Champions League Final victory against Atletico Madrid.

But Mourinho will either have to move very fast to get him man or wait until after the World Cup after Varane was named in Didier Deschamp’s squad and will jet-off to South America in the coming weeks.

Chelsea fans. What do you know about Raphael Varane and is he good enough to partner either Gary Cahill or John Terry in defence? Let us know your thoughts below.
