Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking up with a huge amount of interest on their faces as the Daily Mirror provide an update on the Blues’ pursuit of Shakhtar Donetsk’s Douglas Costa.
The Brazilian attacking midfielder has been heavily linked with the Blues in recent days and it seems that Jose Mourinho is willing to pay around £20 million to push through a move before the conclusion of the January transfer window on February 2nd.
However, that may not be enough with Shakhtar aiming to extort the Blues for at least another few bob with quotes as high as £30 million.
The player himself spoke about the chances of being priced out of a move this month and claimed: “I put my situation to them and they said they would try to help me. Now, we’ll see if it comes to an agreement.”
We think that the Blues certainly have the cash but quite if Costa is worth it remains another matter with the Blues currently boasting Eden Hazard, Oscar, Willian, Andre Schurrle and Mohamed Salah as attacking midfield options.
Chelsea fans. Is £30 million too much to pay for essentially a squad player? Would you prefer the Blues signed Juan Cuadrado instead? Let us know your thoughts below.
