Metro have made a rather sensational claim for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that Manchester United will refuse to sell Wayne Rooney to Chelsea at any price offered.
Chelsea have claimed that Wayne Rooney is their only transfer target this summer and noted that they will be chasing the forward as hard as they can.
After already seeing initial offers rejected for the England international, now it seems that Jose Mourinho is ready to return with an even bigger offer for the former Everton forward.
Given the fact that Rooney’s wife Coleen is determined not to move abroad, Chelsea seemed the most realistic destination for the forward, yet now it seems that David Moyes and the United board will not sell the striker to a direct rival – no matter what Chelsea decide to tempt them with.
Rooney has two years left on his current deal with the Red Devils and has been told by David Moyes that he will be staying for at least another 12 months – no matter how hard he tries to leave and that includes handing in an official transfer request.
The ‘angry and confused’ player is not happy at suggestions he will not be an automatic choice at Old Trafford being currently ranked behind Robin van Persie in the pecking order and feels that he would be able to get ahead of Fernando Torres and Demba Ba at Stamford Bridge should he make a transfer to West London.
Will Manchester United start the 2013/14 campaign with Wayne Rooney still in their ranks? Let us know your thoughts below.
