We at the Football Transfer Tavern were disappointed to read in the The Independent that Edinson Cavani is to snub Chelsea in favour of a move to French champions Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
The Uruguayan international striker is set to return to pre-season training at Napoli next week but is expected to quickly make the switch to Paris for just over £50 million.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was incredibly keen on the powerful former Palermo striker who has impressed in Serie A and in Europe over the past few seasons which has led to numerous clubs declaring an interest.
The Blues were not willing to match PSG’s £50 million plus bid and so have moved on to other targets now with Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney nwo topping their wishlist.
Napoli are resigned to losing their main man this summer but will give new boss Rafael Benitez the majority of the money to reinvest in the squad. The Serie A side have already made some eyecatching additions of their own this summer in landing PSV Eindhoven’s Dries Mertens and Real Madrid’s Jose Callejon.
“We will know everything about [Edinson] Cavani’s future by the end of July. If not, I’ll smack him!” joked Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Is Cavani making the correct decision by joining Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain? Let us know your thoughts below.
