We were intrigued with recent speculation that Roma ace Daniele De Rossi was considering a move to Chelsea given his unforgiving loyalty to Roma.
Today’s Metro reports that despite reports to the contrary his boss Rudi Garcia is adamant that the club want to keep the Italian midfielder this summer.
De Rossi has spent his entire career at the Stadio Olimpico but the 29-year-old could be set to leave after reportedly falling out with the hierarchy at the Serie A side.
New Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho wants to bring him to Stamford Bridge as a replacement for John Obi Mikel who may join Monaco.
But when asked about the midfielder’s future in Rome, Garcia told reporters: “He is a great player and surely it’s better to have him with us than to see him leave.”
The defensive midfielder, who has made 306 appearances for his boyhood club, could be available for around £12 million as he looks to finally link up with Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.
Will Chelsea be able to persuade De Rossi to finally leave Roma? Let us know your thoughts below.
