Chelsea threaten contract rebel with demotion if demands are not lowered

Dominic SolankeChelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned that their club is not taking the ideal approach to dealing with a contract rebel, after the latest reports from the media.

The Times says Chelsea have threatened to demote young striker Dominic Solanke to the development squad if he doesn’t lower his wage demands of £50k-a-week.

Solanke has spent the season on-loan at Dutch side Vitesse Arnheim this season but the Blues are not prepared to sanction another loan move for the 18-year-old next season, whilst Solanke is demanding more chances in the first-team.

With it extremely unlikely that Solanke will compete for a spot in the first-team under Antonio Conte even if he does sign, many believe the latest turn of events mean that the talented youth striker will become the latest impressive asset to leave the club.

Chelsea have earned a torrid reputation with the development of youth players, with the last academy graduate to fully cement himself in the first-team being captain John Terry way back in 1998.

Our landlord believes the latest twist in events means that Solanke is surely set to leave and feels this could come back to haunt them in the future.

Chelsea fans, is this the wrong approach to youth players once again by your side? Let us know in the comments below!
