Chelsea to battle Spaniards for Serbian international

matic.jpgMetro have grabbed our attentions here in the Football Transfer Tavern today as they have noted that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is set to go head to head with his old club Real Madrid to land Serbian international Nemanja Matic this summer.

The manager has eyed the Benfica man who of course was previously a Chelsea player as someone he thinks could help bring the title back to Stamford Bridge and is willing to go up against the might of Real Madrid in order to land his man.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is of course looking to add to his side this summer following the capture of Malaga’s Isco and given Barcelona have already netted Neymar and Los Blancos are struggling to land any of their other transfer targets it seems this may be one race Mourinho could struggle to win.

At only 24-years-old, Matic is considered to be the perfect replacement for the outgoing John Obi Mikel and would be one of the key players in Mourinho’s second spell at the club.

Chelsea have seen their bid for Napoli’s Edinson Cavani stall and are currently looking around for alternatives, but with pre-season ready to start, Mourinho knows that the time to land his top targets has come and a continued pursuit of Matic is on the cards.

Who will come out on top in the battle to land Matic this summer, if anyone at all? Rate this rumour below.
