We are not surprised to hear the latest claim from Metro here in the Football Transfer Tavern, and Chelsea fans are crowding round the bar to hear it.
The publication has claimed that Jose Mourinho will offer the number one goalkeeping spot to Thibaut Courtois ahead of next season – leaving Petr Cech on the bench.
This, as one of our regulars notes, comes after a huge amount of speculation over the future of the on-loan Blues star, and after Cech himself issued somewhat of a fighting cry in terms of his future.
Long-term Chelsea fans (and by that we mean ones who were pre-Munich) will remember that under Jose Mourinho in 2004, Petr Cech was a young keeper installed over Carlo Cudicini, because Mourinho just had a feeling it would be a good idea.
We think that could well be the case again, although the numerous displays Courtois has given over the last couple of seasons have not exactly harmed that view either!
Instead of sending the Belgian international out on loan again next term, Mourinho has reportedly decided to keep him at the club and give him a chance to impress.
How accurate are these reports at this stage? Is Courtois set to become the Blues’ first choice goalkeeper between the sticks next season? Let us know your thoughts below.
