Chelsea to boost youth ranks with League Two wonderkid swoop?

Mourinho wants it desperately Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are excited after The Mirror revealed that their club are monitoring AFC Wimbledon’s hot prospect Daniel Agyei.

The 17-year-old has impressively already scored 22 goals for the Dons’ Under-21 side and if Chelsea choose to swoop in, they would be willing to loan him back to the Kingsmeadow-based side.

The Blues are not the only London club monitoring Agyei’s progress with West London neighbours Fulham also keeping tabs on the situation.

But punters feel he may stay at Wimbledon as it could be the best option for his development and it would most likely be his best opportunity regarding first team football.

Earlier this week, Jose Mourinho stressed the importance of developing and progressing youth players into the first team from the academy.

He included 18-year-old Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the matchday squad to face Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Wednesday night with the imposing midfielder getting on in the latter stages of the fixture.

He said: “If you don’t bring kids through the academy, the best thing is to close the academy.

“If the kids are not good enough or the work not good enough, and you don’t bring kids up, then close the door and use the money to buy players.

“You need to prove the academy works well and is worth it.”
