There are raised eyebrows here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by The Mirror that Chelsea could well be set to sign Vitesse Arnhem’s Marco van Ginkel.
Jose Mourinho, since his return to the Bridge, has been linked to a whole host of players and now it seems the club could well be set to sign one of their long-term targets just after netting Andre Schurrle to boot.
Chelsea are believed to have edged ahead in the race for van Ginkel after Marc Overmars claimed that Ajax were very interested in Van Ginkel but admitted they faced strong competition.
“Ajax were very interested in van Ginkel and we were willing to go quite far.
“But if we have to compete with one of the big clubs from England it is always going to be difficult for us. We cannot beat Chelsea’s financial resources.”
Of course Chelsea are well known for their financial clout and will be determined to land another one of their top targets after seeing Radamel Falcao shun them to join Monaco this summer.
Will Chelsea add the Dutchman to their talented ranks? Rate this rumour below.
