Some interesting talk in today’s Sunday People has arrived in the Football Transfer Tavern this afternoon with the newspaper reporting that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is set to perform a U-turn to instead offer Chelsea legend Frank Lampard a new contract at Stamford Bridge.
According to the People, the Blues have changed their minds after letting the 34-year-old leave on a free transfer in the summer and will now hold talks with the England international about a new deal.
Lampard is desperate to stay at the club but it was thought that his time at the Bridge was approaching it’s end but today’s news will offer hope that he will still be at the club next season.
Interim boss Rafael Benitez said yesterday: “Frank is a good pro, he is doing well, he is under contract, and he is doing fine. I know they have conversations (over his contract) sometimes but the main thing for me as coach is to bring the best out of him.”
The article also suggests that the Champions League holders are close to securing the signature of promising Spanish Under-21 international midfielder Isco for £15 million.
Malaga are certain to sell the 20-year-old to pay off a huge tax bill and they are preparing to sell him to Chelsea or any other potential suitors during the current transfer window.
