Chelsea to partner Fabregas with fellow Spaniard?

Xabi AlonsoThe Daily Mail have Chelsea fans looking up with interest here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the publication report that Xabi Alonso may well be up for grabs.

The Real Madrid midfielder has been linked with a switch back to the Premier League for some time now and as our regulars note, it will not only be Chelsea and former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho who are keen on the Spaniard.

Alonso spent a successful period at Liverpool and the Reds have often been linked with a move to bring him back to Anfield.

However, as our landlord notes, we do not think Brendan Rodgers would be too keen on that proposition anymore.

Chelsea and Mourinho however could well be keen on the Spanish star and after losing Frank Lampard, reinforcements in the middle of the park would not be turned away, despite the arrival of Cesc Fabregas.

There is of course an abundance of talent at the Bernabeu and it could well be hard for Alonso to get into the first team squad with the likes of new signing Toni Kroos now ahead of him in the pecking order.

Chelsea fans. Would you welcome Alonso to the Bridge despite his previous Liverpool connections? Do you think you need him anyway? Let us know your thoughts below.
