There are reports emerging in the Football Transfer Tavern this morning that Chelsea are close to landing highly rated Partizan Belgrade attacking midfielder Lazar Markovic for a fee in the region of £8 million.
Simon Jones from the Daily Mail announces over the bar that the 18-year-old Serbian, who has already made his senior debut for the national team, is understood to have been personally recommended by former Chelsea and Partizan boss Avram Grant to owner Roman Abramovich during the summer.
The attack minded midfielder, who can also play up-front, won the Partizan Player of the Year award for the Belgrade outfit last term and the club are looking for a fee rising to around £14m based on appearances.
Markovic has been in fine form for Partizan this season with six goals in his 12 games for the club and that has brought him to the attention of several European clubs including Liverpool and Arsenal but it is still believed that the European Champions are in pole position to capture the wonderkid.
The Stamford Bridge club will discuss possible transfer targets during their spell at the Club World Cup in Japan with interim manager Rafael Bentiez hoping to return with a shopping list for the January window.
