Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are raising their eyebrows at the news coming from the The Sun who claim the Blues are leading the race to sign Wilfried Bony.
Of course the player has long been linked with Premier League rivals West Ham United and despite other clubs also sniffing around, Roman Abramovich is confident of landing the player. The Sun have claimed that the Hammers may be set to make a £12 million bid but Chelsea are willing to step in and hijack it.
The forward who has been compared to fellow countryman Didier Drogba has netted 26 goals in 24 games and is the top scorer in the Netherlands and has been a pivotal force in leading Vitesse Arnhem to an unlikely title charge.
Despite David Sullivan meeting the player’s agent on Monday, Chelsea moved quickly and a team from the club were discussing a move for the forward who is currently under contract until 2015 with his club. Chelsea are eyeing a four-year deal for the player with wages on offer of around £80,000 per week.
