After the relief yesterday of reading about Arsenal having a bid knocked back for star striker Luis Suarez, Liverpool supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are concerned with reports from Mirror Football that fellow Londoners Chelsea are considering making a stunning £40 million offer for the Uruguayan international.
Suarez is understood to have a clause in his contract whereby the Reds must listen to any offer over £40 million but they have no assertation to sell the former Ajax hitman.
Real Madrid were thought to be the main contenders for the striker but a surprise offer from the Emirates Stadium has opened up the prospect of Suarez remaining in the Premier League.
Jose Mourinho is desperate to recruit a top-class striker after his arrival at Stamford Bridge this summer but has been left disappointed after losing out on Radamel Falcao, Edinson Cavani and Hulk, despite landing Bayer Leverkusen’s Andre Schurrle.
A move for the Liverpool man could now be on the cards as Mourinho looks to bring the title back to SW6. Chelsea famously raided Anfield for Fernando Torres in a record £50 m deal back in 2009 and they could be back for more.
Chelsea fans. Could you manage to forget Suarez’ infamous bite on current star Branislav Ivanovic and accept him in a Blue shirt? Let us know your thoughts below.
