A sensational transfer rumour has arrived in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening to get our punters stirring.
Regular in the bar Alan Nixon from Mirror Football claimed that Chelsea could move again for Monaco striker Radamel Falcao as Jose Mourinho seeks to bid a British record £60 million for his services in January.
Nixon suggests that the former Madrid coach will watch the world class striker in action for Colombia as they take on Belgium in an international friendly on Thursday as he plots a transfer for the 27-year-old.
Mourinho had been desperate to secure the Atletico Madrid hitman during the summer, but he decided to make a big money switch to the Stade Louis II instead.
However recent reports have suggested that all is not well with the French club and he could be sold for tax reasons in the upcoming transfer window.
Chelsea are reportedly tracking Falcao in case of a possible sale, and Mourinho wants to see how he fares against a Belgium team that contains a whole host of Premier League stars.
The Blues are chasing a top class striker in January as Samuel Eto’o provides only a short-term alternative while Fernando Torres continues to blow hot and cold in attack.
Both Wayne Rooney and Robert Lewandowski were previously targeted but neither forward proved a viable option so Falcao could be the missing piece in the Chelsea jigsaw.
As one punter points out, a winter transfer wouldn’t be out of the question given that Falcao remains eligible for the Champions League.
Will Falcao join a much bigger club in the form of Chelsea this January? Let us know your thoughts below.
