Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we thought that this was a transfer which was done and dusted.
All reports suggested that Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski was set to sign a pre-contract agreement with Bayern Munich before moving to the Allianz Arena in the summer.
However today’s Express offers renewed hope to the Chelsea supporters in the bar by indicating that Jose Mourinho will make one final offer to lure the Polish international forward to Stamford Bridge.
The 25-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season at the Westfalenstadion and is fully expected to link-up with their rivals Bayern as Pep Guardiola looks to further strengthen his squad of Champions League winners.
He is able to sign a pre-contract agreement in January but Mourinho is still hoping that he can persuade the prolific front-man that his future is in the Premier League.
That would certainly suit Dortmund, who are resigned to losing Lewandowski, but would rather see him leave the Bundesliga than sign for their fierce rivals – who are already clear at the top of the league.
Any future offer from Chelsea is likely to bring Real Madrid back into the running, as the Bernabeu club seek a replacement for Karim Benzema in attack.
