Another a summer another forward for Chelsea fans to talk about here in the Football Transfer Tavern and Metro seem to think that the Blues have their eye on Mauro Icardi who will cost them at least £30 million.
Now while that might be small change in comparison to how much Fernando Torres cost the west London club – and we are pretty sure 22-year- old Icardi will be better value for money – but it is still a huge amount for any club trying to comply with FFP regulations.
The Serie A striker is also a target for Manchester United but the £30 million+ price-tag could potentially put the Premier League duo off any deal to sign the striker.
Given Didier Drogba will be one year older come the summer and Jose Mourinho does not seem convinced by Loic Remy, Icardi has understandably scored his way onto the Blues’ radar and given he is only getting better as the Serie A season goes on, Roberto Mancini will probably be expecting his value to rise.
Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio claimed that it would take more than the rumoured £30 million to convince his side to part ways with Icardi, noting: ‘What if someone bids €40m (£30m) for him in the summer?
‘Well we’ve got no intention of doing business, we’re thinking of the present and future of this football club with Icardi.’
That, as our regulars quip, is basically speak for ‘another ten million and he’s yours.’
