Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has, for years, charged extortionate amounts for players and generally proved a hard man to deal with financially.
And now it seems Levy himself is being played at his own game as Roma play hard ball over one of their finest prospects.
According to Metro, the Italian club want a whopping £50 million to land 27-year-old transfer target Mehdi Benatia.
Tottenham though aren’t the only Premier League club that are hot on the heels of the Morrocan international but the price on his head is likely to scare Chelsea and Manchester City them off.
With Roma’s sporting director Walter Sabatini insisting he won’t let the Moroccan international depart without a fight.
But Tottenham may have a ready made player plus cash deal on the table if new Spurs gaffer Mauricio Pochettino decides that Erik Lamela has no future at the club.
The Argentine winger only moved to London from Rome last summer but he struggled with injuries and adaption to the English game.
But he’s till a valuable quantity in Italy and Roma are rumoured to be interested in bringing him back to the Stadio Olimpico.
Tottenham fans. Would you swap Lamela for Benatia if a deal could be done? Let us know your thoughts below.
