Here in the Football Transfer Tavern, we had assumed that the transfer of Bayer Leverkusen star Andre Schurrle to Chelsea was all but agreed however reports emerging today suggest that the transfer has encountered a hitch which could see it fall through.
Matt Barlow from Mail Online has popped into the bar to declare that Kevin de Bruyne has rejected a loan move to Bayer Leverkusen as part of the deal, instead opting to sign on a permanent deal for Champions League semi-finalists Borussia Dortmund and this could scupper Chelsea’s proposed deal.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has been continuously linked with a move to Stamford Bridge and with a £20 million transfer agreed it was thought that the German international would be making the switch to England in the future.
However in bad news to Blues fans Barlow explains that Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller said only this week that Schurrle would not join Chelsea if de Bruyne did not move in the opposite direction. With de Bruyne rejecting the German side for Dortmund the transfer now looks in doubt.
